A Book of Love

‘Life is meaningless only if we allow it to be. Each of us has the power to give life meaning, to make out time and our bodies and our words into instruments of love and hope.’

‘Why love if losing hurts so much? We love to know that we are not alone.’

‘Radical superiority is a mere pigment of the imagination.’

Sephy is a Cross – a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought – a ‘colourless’ member of the underclass who were once slaves to the Crosses.

The two have been friends since early childhood. But that’s as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools… Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum – a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger…

  1. this is a great way of I reading peoples points of views
I think only the ages of 13should read it but is up to your parents and up watch out its got some……bits out !!!!!

  2. I think your book is really good and is very dramatic although I would rather prefer less chapters and you could of done 2 books say it was 50 chapters you could do it at 25 chapters, however in addition it was really a god idea to tell them about your life when you were younger! I hope you will have a good future and it will be fun!!!!!

  3. this book is a joy to read and has such a great impact on oneself, as i have experienced and think that malorie blackman is a great writer and also hope that this need to be made into a movie

  4. I have read and reread this book several times. It is the sort of book that makes you ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’ giving a little bit of an insight to how some people had to live. And that is what I love about your books! Every time I read one of your books it brings a tear to my eye.

  6. When i discoverd Entre Chiens et Loups (it’s the french title and i never understood why 🙂 ^^), i just was eleven and a half. My best friend offered it to me for Christmas but i never thought this book would be my preferred… and it is even today, while i’m 16 !! 😀 Noughts and Crosses and all the serie… i just can’t describe how i love it.The way of writing, the characters, the intrigue, the correctness of the feelings… it is incredible isn’t it ? And like i’m a half-blood girl like Callie, i imagine me play her role in the movie ( that we’re waiting impatiently !!!!) :)’ I so much adored this serie that i made it discover to about 20 persons of my circle of acquaintances :))) And i don’t even speak about Boy’s don’t cry that i read 3 or 4 years ago : it is also brillant and once again I am stunned by the correctness of the feelings !!
Malorie, we’re waiting you in France too ! 😉

(Sorry for my approximate english :p)

  13. I fell in love this book, not only because it was original but because I fit the character so well, I felt like I was her while I was reading the book, It captured so many of my emotion I didn’t know I had, and for an author to be able to do that, is truly magical, I pray that one day this book is turned into a film or tv show and would be my one wish to play the lead actress as I connect so much with the character, and the impact it had on me, because a book like this needed to be out, to let people step into the characters shoes and see why society is the way it was and is. Thank you malorie blackman, one of my wishes is to meet you one day and just spend an evening with you : D

  14. This is a fantastic book! I first read it in my English class, and now I am going to buy the whole series! xx

  15. Having literally just finished reading noughts and crosses I’m in awe and have never felt so touched by a book and emotionally attached to the characters! What a fantastic book I have just ordered the rest of the trilogy and cannot wait to read them. Although the ending is sad and unexpected it was definitely by far the best book I have read!!x

  16. This book is really good. It more about the world they are in and a bit of love in it but it’s still a good book for all genders.

  17. Creative writing is a skill you are born with and is then developed into a wonder that brings tears to one’s eyes and laughter when necessary. Malorie Blackman executes an author’s traits perfectly in this series.

  18. I read all the time and have just recently finished the noughts and crosses series which has by far taken over my old favourite books I loved the series so much and am now looking for more of you books to read!

  19. I like the starting of the book and the story of it but the ending is bit worrying and it’s not necessary for ending in that way I prefer different way but overall the book and use of history (little nine rock ) is pretty amazing:))) good work I like the way of thinking :)))))

  20. Noughts and Crosses is the best book I’ve ever read! After I read it, I was desperate to get Knife Edge!

  21. This book is amazing, really the best book I ever read ! My friend recommended it to me, I read it in less then a week and it is 400 pages. If you’re looking for a great book, noughts and crosses is just perfection !

  22. I think this book is very touching,a brilliant book, with lot of sadness, but also very eventful, you’ll never get bored. But there is a reason it’s not for younger readers, it has lots of sharpness in it, but that’s one of the good things about the book, isn’t all ‘rosy posy’. it’s a hard but stunning book. It’s so edge-gripping, you’ll fly through it.

  23. I cried so much at this book! It takes very real social issues that we can all understand into a the world of Sephy and Callum…it’s so beautiful! As soon as I finished it I bought all of the others!!

  24. I think noughts and crosses is amazing I’ve never read a book like it and don’t think I ever will again. I was in floods of my own tears thought out the whole book but the ending was the main heart hitter… I couldn’t believe it. Callum and sephy were so perfect but no matter what way the book was wrote Callum would die which you get in the story of Callum. I’ve read all the books and cried in everyone but loved them all too! I think a 5th book would be brilliant and maybe even a movie

  25. This book was one of the few that keeps me reading even if I am tired. But again most of Malorie Blackman’s books do that to me. They are just too good to put down.

  26. This book has spoilt me for other books!! I think Noughts and Crosses, Knife edge and Checkmate are the best series of books I’ve read. It is an emotional read that has left me searching for something else to read that will evoke the same level of emotion this series did. Noughts and Crosses is an amazing start to an emotional story. Highly recommended.

  27. It is a good book I want to read more series of it and I am reading them 🙂 🙂
Malorie is amazing and I like how you put chapters according to each character and their perspective through it , this is an amazing skill to show someone’s perspective and feeling through word which are emotional enough to reach the reader.

  28. Noughts and Crosses is an excellent piece of literature, I read this a year ago and I still think of the touching issues this covers from love to racism. It is brilliant! I would love it to be made into a film however it would be hard for an actress to play Callie as she would need to be portrayed by a number of actress’ as her age changes throughout the novel. I wouldn’t make the 4th book into a movie because its too different from the first three. However i thought the character of Toby was fantastic! I love you malorie!

  29. I am in love with these books! The story of Sephy and Callum is so heartbreaking but enduring I can’t stop reading it even when I’m literally crying as I turn the page! I’ve never read a book that filled me with such emotion before, its truly beautiful! Absolutely amazing books and an absolutely amazing author!

  30. We read this book at school at at first i was very sceptical about it, but found it to be an amazing book with a brilliant plot and strong cliff hangers that make it hard to put the book down. The idea for the book and the history behind it is incredible. The book is a must read and i dare to say it but may also be turned into a film as it has just a good plot and story line.

  31. This is amazing, wonderful and excitement. Their should be a movie of this all the noughts and crosses book; that will be great. Hope to it!!! This just show the reality how black people was being treated but in this book it is the opposite and I really enjoy reading this. It has lots of emotive language. It a GREAT book! I love it! <3 it's a marvellous book!

  32. This book is amazing. I could not put it down, so read it in less than 24 hours. Callum is great as well, but it is so sad that the ending in both books are so similar. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

  33. I absolutley love this book. Its one of the best that I have ever read and every time i read it, i try and stop before the last couple of chapters because I am in tears. It is so moving and shows the good and the bad about humanity.

  34. I read all the series in one day… This series was very emotional… After I read it I had to think about it for an hour!!!
